Anniversaries…they have such significance and for Resplendent Light Community Church, we are on the verge of celebrating our 4th Anniversary on February 3rd this year as a church plant in Santa Monica. From our humble beginnings, having started our church in a family room within a home 3 years ago, and now executed our second 2-year lease in the Santa Monica Business Park. We sensed a calling to minister in this specific area of Santa Monica and plan to reach out to our neighbors through our toddler’s and children ministry as well as expanding our efforts to our older adults this coming year. We look forward to this year as we envision more involvement and engagement with the local Santa Monica community, the City of Santa Monica Police Department and neighbors through serving and prayer. These are truly exciting times for us to celebrate!
We’re hosting Christmas Eve Candlelight Service on December 24 @ 6:00 p.m. and everyone is invited to come join us! We’re located at 3200 Ocean Park Blvd. in the Equity Office Leasing Center on the corner of 31th Street and Ocean Park Blvd. Ample parking is available.
On December 10, 2016, we join other churches in Santa Monica in hosting the 64th Annual Nativity Scene Display at Mount Olive Lutheran Church (1343 Ocean Park Boulevard, Santa Monica) at the corner of 14th Street and Ocean Park Boulevard. This will be our 4th year participating in the Nativity Scene Display after inheriting the honor from the Santa Monica Police Officers Association.
Our booth is named the Annunciation that depicts Mary receiving the glorious news from the angel Gabriel of being chosen to give birth to the Messiah as foretold in Luke 1:26-38. Our booth is at the beginning of the multi-booth display on Maple Street and each display thereafter tells the story surrounding the birth of Jesus in a panorama view that culminates near the intersection of 14th and Ocean Park Boulevard. Stan Lin has once again done a incredible job creating the wardrobe, repainting and articulating the position of both images of Mary and the Gabriel in our display. The Nativity Scene will officially open on December 11, 2016 and culminate shortly after the New Year. We invite everyone to come out to view the Nativity Scene Display and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ this Christmas Season!
We at Resplendent Light Community Church celebrated our 3rd Anniversary in the City of Santa Monica! Our church started in the home of Cliff & Susan Asai on February 3, 2013 and moved a little over a year afterwards to our current location in the Santa Monica Business Park. There have been many challenges starting out as a new church plant, however, our church community remains steadfast and supportive of both our vision and mission to love our neighbors in Santa Monica. We have gotten to know many young families in the area who frequent Clover Park through our weekday toddler co-op, participated with the Santa Monica Police Department through their chaplaincy program and helped the poor and disadvantaged through the food giving and packing homeless kits.
We begin our fourth year looking forward to how we serve those around us through continued involvement with the spiritual needs of International students at both Santa Monica College and UCLA. We reach out to those who frequent and work at the County Courthouse in Santa Monica every Wednesday during noontime prayer at the flagpole. Every Thursday morning, pastors and chaplains of various denominations gather in unity to pray for City of Santa Monica and for those who are in leadership. It is our goal this year to work more closely with the City of Santa Monica and join in volunteering and praying for specific areas of concerns within the community.
There is much to look forward to in 2016 and we are so thankful that we have been called to serve and reach out to our neighbors in the workplace and community which we reside. God is Good.
On Saturday December 12, we will join other churches in Santa Monica to setup and proclaim the birth of Jesus Christ through the Nativity Scene Display at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church property (14th Street & Maple Street, near Ocean Park Blvd. – Santa Monica). This will be the third year we have participated in the tradition of displaying the Gospels telling of Jesus’ birth. Our display is the Annunciation from Luke 1:26-33 and features the figures of angel Gabriel and Mary, who received the message that she would give birth to the long awaited Messiah. The figures in the display of both Gabriel & Mary were rebuilt and recast by Stan Lin, who captured the beauty and majesty of the encounter and is a tribute to his year-long work to bring a sense of reality to the scene. The Nativity Scene Display will officially open on December 13 at the opening ceremonies at Palisades Park (Ocean Blvd. near Arizona) taking place at 3:00 p.m. The Nativity Scene Display can be viewed between December 13, 2015 through January 6, 2016 at the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church location. Come and see!
As the song goes, At Last, we are moving back to our 3200 Ocean Park Boulevard (Santa Monica Room) address this coming Sunday, October 4, to host our worship services once again. It has been over 5 months since construction started but we are truly Thankful that the remodeling to the facilities has finished…finally. The improvements to the facilities were well worth the wait.
Worship services will be held at 10:15 a.m. with the Adult Bible Study/Discussion Group starting at 9:00 a.m. and prayer at 9:45 a.m. We welcome all who will join us for a time of celebration, worship and praise to our Lord Jesus Christ! The first Sunday of each month is Communion Sunday and we will partake of the sacraments this week. Fellowship will follow the conclusion of our worship services and all are welcome to meet during our time of fellowship.
Whenever I travel and stay at a hotel/motel, some of the conveniences I look forward to are the small travel size shampoo, conditioners, body lotion that enhance my stay experience and allows me not to have to pack in my bags. Of course I tend to collect those small vials of shampoo or conditioners with the sincere intent of using them some day but that doesn’t seem to happen. Instead I end up with drawers full of travel size containers in the bathroom with little room to put my toothpaste or shaving cream. What to do?
I believe I found a solution! On July 11, 2015, we will join with others through the Westside Church Collaborative to pack Hygiene Kits for distribution to the homeless and the poor in Santa Monica and other areas. We will meet at University Bible Church (10801 Wilshire Blvd., L.A. 90024) at 10:00 a.m. to pack the Hygiene Kits together for distribution. We distribute the Hygiene Kits through a variety of sources such as West Coast Care to families or individuals that are reunited with their families across the nation or through Cru, a campus ministry that ministers to the homeless in promenade area of Santa Monica.
In the meantime, we are collecting travel size shampoo and conditioners through Resplendent Light Community Church every Sunday during our worship services for the purpose of always remembering the less fortunate and to share the Love of Christ in our community.
Join us for a full day of fun bowling at El Dorado Bowl* on June 20, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. We invite all comers to join us as we raise funds for our vision of reaching out to our neighbors in and around the community of Santa Monica with the love of Jesus Christ. You can join in us as we continue to serve the poor through food collection, collaborative efforts to assist the homeless with other churches in Santa Monica. Please contact Charles Koyama at: firstname.lastname@example.org for more details and sign up to participate!
